A fraudulent email pretending to be from a government department is doing the rounds, urging people to download their e-PAN card using a link provided in the message. The email even includes a so-called step-by-step process, which is misleading many and causing unnecessary worry among citizens who fear losing access to important financial services.
Government Confirms No Such Email Was Sent
Several users have shared this fake message online, along with the official Income Tax Department link where such suspicious emails can be reported. Anyone receiving phishing or fake communication can visit the reporting page at the Income Tax website for verification and to report scams.
Authorities have now clarified that no government body or the Income Tax Department has issued any such communication. The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check Unit has confirmed that the message is completely fake and has advised the public to avoid clicking the link or sharing any personal information.

Why Sharing Personal Information Is Risky
Entering sensitive details like PAN, Aadhaar, or bank information on unverified websites can put individuals at serious risk. Such data can be misused for identity theft, financial scams, and other fraudulent activities.
PIB Issues a Warning
The PIB Fact Check Unit posted a clear warning on X:
“Have you also received an email asking you to download an e-PAN Card? This email is fake. Do not respond to any emails, links, calls, or SMS asking for financial or sensitive information.”
